CR Paddlers - Trip Policies

(1) Trip participants must have the Canadian Coast Guard required items: PFD, 15m tow/throw line, pump, whistle.

(2) Personal Flotation Devices must be worn on Club events. Sprayskirts are required on club trips. Extra clothing in a drybag is required. An extra paddle is required for any trip other than a Wednesday night paddle.

(3) Club members who participate in club trips are expected to have practiced and are competent to perform wet exits and assisted rescues.

(4) The Wednesday Night Paddle shall be cancelled if the trip coordinator deems the marine forecast to be unsuitable or the conditions to be unsafe.

(5) New paddlers will notify trip coordinators that they wish to go on a club trip at least one week in advance.
New paddlers are defined as
- guests of members
- new members who are experienced paddlers but who have not paddled with the club before
- new members who are not experienced and have been on less than 4 club outings

(6) The trip coordinator will designate a point paddler and a sweep paddler.
No paddlers are to paddle ahead of the point. No paddlers are to paddle behind the sweep.
Paddlers are strongly advised to paddle with a buddy. The sweep is strongly encouraged to paddle with a buddy.
It is strongly recommended that the point and sweep carry marine radios.

(7) The trip coordinator has the authority to tell a paddler that they cannot go on a club trip
(7a) if that paddler does not have the experience to go on the trip.
(7b) if that paddler does not have a boat suitable for the trip.
(7c) if that paddler does not have the necessary equipment for the trip.

(8) Whenever a paddler has been turned away from a club trip, the trip coordinator will make a report to the executive and the safety committee.
