Estuary       Saturday, Sep 12, 2009

Participants: Bev, Fred, Arlene, Ken, Al, Emily
Comox Paddlers: Ginger, Les, Bev, John, Brian, Gabriela, Thomas from Switzerland

This was a Comox Paddlers trip led by Gabriela. We met at the estuary at 2 pm, under bright sunny skies. Temperatures were nicely warm, yet cool enough that those in drysuits did not overheat before launching. We avoided a float plane as we paddled past the mouth of the estuary, and continued north for a short distance before turning around. Once back in the estuary, we made the loop around the island with a detour up a dead-end channel. After joining the river, we paddled upstream to the highway, then turned around. We saw the occasional expired salmon on the bottom (I'm guessing pinks based on the size). There was a group of three snorkelers, also a couple of youngsters watching the bottom with inner tubes and face masks. We continued back to the launch point, where Brian, Gabriela, and Al pleasantly passed an hour working on our rolls and sharing our knowledge.
