Estuary Paddle       Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Our biggest turn out yet with 17 boats on the water! The sun was shining and everyone was anxious to get out on the water. We had some guests join us - Doug H. and Norm B. Tom and Ken started us off by having a hands only paddling contest. It was an interesting paddle through the side channels. The paddle went smoothly considering the number of boats that were in line moving through the obstacles. Paddlers checked out the large clumps of yellow swamp irises and wild roses along the bank, while some checked for fish on the bottom of the channel. Several of the guys were practicing their rolling skills - Al, Tom, Ken B, and Ken V. And some practiced their wet exit - Tom (although I'm not sure that was a planned one?), Barb G., Ken V. (sorry if I missed anyone). When kayaks and gear were taken care of, everyone gathered around Ken B.'s tailgate for refreshments (always something new to try). Thanks everyone for the contributions. Lots of conversation - stories - (and maybe some b.s.)
